do you play the same music for milongas and practicas?

Moni
New forum so I hope someone answers me ;)
I ama newish aspiring tango DJ and have been asked to DJ a number of milongas and practicas. I wonder however if I need to have different music for these, or whether they require the same music list basically?
If different then in which way?
Thanks heaps for any answers!

I'm definitely not a DJ but will give my 2 bits:
- cortinas are ok for milongas but generally not practicas
- generally milongas are less experimental
Otherwise they are pretty much the same.

Agree the music is pretty much the same. However because a milonga has a cortina whereas a practica often does not, the playlist needs to be in 3- or 4-song lumps.
The other thing though I would say is that a milonga crowd are much less forgiving than a practica crowd. At a practica, they are there for learning and practicing. However at a milonga, they are there purely for the enjoyment and the passion of the tango. You need to read the crowd much better at a milonga and if they are losing interest, you better react with good music quickly!
